  • If your pet is itchy -> there is always a reason! It is not normal for animals to lick, clean or nibble themselves obsessively. Medications for itch may mask the symptoms, but can be associated with side-effects. It is most important for the quality of life of the animal and for the contentment of the owner to identify cause(s) to attempt to deal with these, and to see if anything else can be done.

Some conditions are life-long, but nearly all can be managed so that quality of life is maximised. New treatments are constantly being developed.

With the expertise of someone with a special interest in animal skin disease Animal Dermatology Canterbury is here to help you get to the bottom of your pet’s skin problem.

    These may include:

    • Hypersensitivities or allergies; environmental or food allergies resulting in itchy skin

    • Ear infections, new or chronic

    • Nail disease, paw and pad conditions

    • Hair loss, with or without itching or inflammation

    • Skin infections, bacterial, yeast, fungal

    • Immune-mediated or auto-immune skin conditions
